Program for Supporting Autistic Social Entrepreneurs

Pilot Program Commences 25 February 2026

The Program for Supporting Autistic Social Entrepreneurs provides disability service providers, social enterprise support services, and business support services with the knowledge and skills to assist autistic social entrepreneurs in a strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming manner.

The Program consists of three units:

  • What is Autism?

  • Autistic Innovation and Entrepreneurship

  • Autistic Entrepreneurial Ecosystems

Unit 1

What is Autism?

In Unit 1 participants will differentiate between deficit and neurodiversity-affirming views of autism, and between autism and conditions that frequently occur alongside autism. They will learn about innate autistic ways of thinking, why they should not encourage autistic people to mask their autism, and how to adapt their current programs and services so that they are strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming.

Unit 2

Autistic Innovation and Entrepreneurship

In Unit 2 participants will understand why all autistic owned and led businesses are by definition social enterprises, identify how autistic characteristics align with the social innovation school of social entrepreneurship, and learn how to support autistic individuals to recognise and use their innate autistic ways of thinking to create and systemise innovations. They will also learn why an effectual business development approach is best suited to the characteristics of autistic individuals.

Unit 3

Autistic Entrepreneurial Ecosystems

In Unit 3 participants will understand the complexity of creating an enabling environment for autistic social entrepreneurship and why it will require an entrepreneurial ecosystem that consists of autistic social entrepreneurs, disability support services, social enterprise support services, and business support services. They will also learn how to create conditions so that the diverse organisations in autistic social entrepreneurial ecosystems can work together more effectively to support autistic social entrepreneurs.
